Retreats

img_85201.jpgKatie O’Connell and Dragonfly Yoga have been leading retreats in exotic locations around the world and at her own retreat center, Dragonfly Yoga, since 2008. Traveling abroad to beautiful destinations, often along miles of sandy beach in Central America, up high in the mountains of India, in the shadow of volcanoes of Guatemala, and along the stone-walled fields and rocky shores of Ireland, is what brings joy to this wanderlust yogi who practices yoga with her students wherever they are willing to strike a pose.

How does Katie choose a retreat location? Well, there’s a lot that goes into it, actually! “I take into consideration the yoga facility and uniqueness of the retreat center as a whole, the scenery and opportunity to engage in the beauty of the landscape, and the culture and people are always important, too.  Oh, and the FOOD!! I often do personal site visits (it’s a tough job, haha!).  My guests love the opportunity to learn a little on retreat, whether it is about the local cuisine, handicrafts, or music of a culture, and even if the goal of most guests is to relax, revitalize, and rejuvenate, there is always some kind of an adventure to enjoy!” Don’t worry, if you don’t want to go zip-lining, boating, snorkeling, hiking, paddle boarding, and bird watching, for example, there is always ample time for resting on a beach, getting a massage, and just enjoying the scenery!

Did she mention the food? Enjoying amazing meals is of utmost importance when traveling on retreat, so rest assured you will be well fed with plentiful platters of healthy, organic, local fare that will be a feast for your eyes as well as your belly! You can be guaranteed the food will be fresh, delicious, and made with love!

Yoga is a part of every retreat, whether it is on our annual Panchakarma cleansing retreat to India, or on a rooftop under the rising equatorial sun!  Even in our recent Ireland retreat, we practiced daily yoga class—one morning by the beer tap lights of the hotel pub! “Yoga is always an adventure when you travel with a Katie!” ~Sue

Katie and her husband Declan also facilitate many retreats at home in the White Mountains of NH.  The air is fresh, the watering holes and lakes are clean, the hiking is gorgeous, and the food is lovingly prepared by Declan, who uses the veggies Katie grows in the summer on site, as well as local produce from CSAs and neighbors happy to share their bounty.  Weekend retreats are perfect for those looking to get away and recharge their batteries, meet up with friends for a few nights, and guests who know how important it is to do self care and unplug from the busy-ness of work, family, and responsibilities at home.  Some common words said by guests after just a couple of days at Dragonfly include: “rejuvenated,” “energized,” “calm,” “joyful,”  “amazing food!” “I’m never leaving!” and “Can I just move in here?”
